Project #206: Cardiovascular outcomes post-COVID-19 and the potential for COVID-19 vaccines to mitigate them
Multiple studies have shown that influenza and COVID-19 infections can increase the risk of developing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) such as stroke and acute myocardial infarction. Influenza vaccines have been shown to potentially reduce the risk of MACE after infection, but research in this area has been limited to specific populations. The COVID-19 pandemic, along with the availability of diagnostic tests and widespread vaccination, presents an opportunity to evaluate the potential of vaccination in mitigating cardiovascular complications associated with the infection.
This study will evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 vaccine against MACE after SARS-COV-2 infection.
This study aims to provide new insights into cardiovascular complications resulting from infections, which cause a considerable global burden, and the potential of vaccination to mitigate these complications. It will also strengthen the knowledge of the long-term consequences of infection and the additional benefits of vaccines. This is crucial to driving the research of new vaccines against neglected diseases and improving public trust in this essential public health tool.
