POS-2026-3013: INTEGRATE: Using routinely-collected healthcare data to inform clinical guidance and improve population health

The NIHR-funded INTEGRATE project aims to make better use of real-world data from electronic health records to evaluate clinical guideline implementation, with a particular focus on identifying inequalities. This study forms the osteoporosis workstream within INTEGRATE and is being delivered in partnership with NICE to strengthen the use of routinely collected healthcare data in guideline development and technology appraisal.

Using healthcare records, we will investigate osteoporosis and its treatment in routine clinical practice among people at increased risk of fracture. We will calculate their baseline fracture risk and estimate the risk of subsequent fractures. We will also examine how osteoporosis medicines are used in practice and evaluate their safety and effectiveness following treatment initiation.

The study will generate robust and transparent real-world evidence to support the current NICE multiple technology appraisal of medicines for treating osteoporosis and reducing the risk of fragility fractures. The findings will help NICE and the NHS understand how these treatments are used in practice, improve care and identify potential inequalities.

The wider INTEGRATE programme will also support future NICE workstreams in other clinical areas, subject to the necessary approvals, including guideline updates relating to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
