Opt-outs

This page provides information on patient opt-outs which may affect the project you do in OpenSAFELY.

Type 1 Opt-out (T1OO)

Patients who have a Type 1 Opt-out have chosen to stop their data from being shared by their GP practice from being used for purposes beyond their individual care. These patients’ data are automatically excluded from all OpenSAFELY projects, except for those explicitly described in our Data Access Policy and Data Protection Impact Assessment.

To understand more about the T1OO, visit the NHS England website.

For more information about how the T1OO is applied within OpenSAFELY, read our Documentation.

National Data Opt-Out (NDOO)

The National Data Opt-Out (NDOO) is the national opt-out mechanism that enables people to decide whether their confidential patient information can be used for healthcare research and planning.

Read an overview of the NDOO on the NHS England website.

For more information about how the NDOO is applied within OpenSAFELY, read our Documentation.
