Project #204 : The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on A&E attendances for Cardiovascular Diseases
The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way hospital care was delivered, and how people interacted with the healthcare system. During the pandemic, fewer people went to A&E. This included people attending A&E with heart and circulatory conditions. This may have affected the long-term health of people with heart and circulatory conditions. It has also been shown that different groups of people were affected differently by the pandemic - people living in more deprived areas and people from minority ethnic groups had larger decreases in emergency hospital attendances. We will measure the changes in patterns of A&E attendances due to the pandemic for heart and circulatory conditions, and see if the changes were different between different groups in society. This information can be used as evidence of health inequalities, by policymakers to tackle these inequalities and to inform further studies.
