Project #179:
Autoimmune diseases following COVID-19 vaccination
We will investigate the risk of developing autoimmune diseases following COVID-19 vaccination. A small number of people may develop autoimmune diseases as a rare reaction to COVID-19 vaccines. It is currently unknown how frequently this reaction may occur. This research will estimate the risk of new onsets or relapses of autoimmune diseases for people following their COVID-19 vaccination. Further analyses will assess how pre-existing medical conditions and other factors may also affect this risk. This work will benefit the public by improving understanding of who are at higher risk of developing autoimmune diseases following COVID-19 vaccination. This will enable people to make more informed decisions regarding COVID-19 vaccination and may help to improve public health.
