Project #177:
Effectiveness and safety of COVID-19 treatments for hospitalised patients
Several antiviral medications and anti-inflammation agents are currently used in England to treat COVID-19 patients in hospital. However, the clinical trials supporting their use for COVID-19 treatment were mostly conducted before the Omicron wave and in a restricted population. Therefore there is a need to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of these medications in real-world settings with wider populations.
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of COVID-19 treatments for hospitalised patients in preventing death and other severe outcomes and also evaluate the safety of the treatments, especially since Omicron waves, utilising the multi-sourced health record data in the OpenSAFELY-TPP platform.
